Kennel Assistant

Location: 4318 E. Army Post Road Des Moines, IA 50320

VCA Avondale Veterinary Hospital & Resort is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Part-Time Kennel Assistant to join our team. This role is essential to ensuring our boarding and hospitalized pets receive excellent daily care in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide daily care for boarding and hospitalized pets, including feeding, watering, walking, and monitoring behavior

• Clean, sanitize, and maintain kennels, runs, litter boxes, and common areas according to hospital protocols

• Assist with laundry and organization of supplies

• Observe pets for any changes in health or behavior and report concerns to the veterinary team

• Support the medical and resort teams as needed to ensure smooth daily operations

• Uphold all safety, sanitation, and infection control standards

• Provide friendly and professional interactions during pet drop-off and pick-up, as needed

Schedule & Availability:

• Part-time position

• Resort staff must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as the resort is open seven days a week

Compensation: $16/hr

Qualifications:

• Genuine love of animals and a strong work ethic

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically active environment

• Comfortable performing cleaning and animal handling tasks

• Dependable, team-oriented, and positive attitude
